Thursday, April 26th, 2007

Adding to the family of AboutUs Portals is our latest, the Photographers Portal. Demonstrating a combination of information, terminology and commercial services, the Photographers Portal provides a great primer on what professional photographers can do for you. As with all of the AboutUs Portals, we invite you to Create Your Own or add to the Photographers Portal with your own insight on technology, terms and types of services, as well as to help build out more geographical information, like that demonstrated on our Oregon Photographers listing.

  • The link after that interview is “An Evening with Steve Wozniak”. Steve is the genius that co-founded Apple Computer and was integral with pioneering how personal computers were designed. He’s one of my personal heroes. Looks like I’m going to have to watch both tonight. — TakKendrick

We certainly don’t endorse people spending all their time in front of a computer screen, although many of us do it. Shopping, correspondence, work, entertainment, even taxes are being done online these days. Is it any wonder that e-learning and e-learning solutions represent a burgeoning market? Which leads to today’s featured wiki page, Riventi.com. This page represents an English version of the various products and services that Riventi provides. A Scandinavian company, Riventi specializes in tools and solutions for authoring e-learning in both the public and private sectors. They also offer high-end custom content and general e-learning products and services throughout Europe. (View Comments)

People in the MTV generation probably already know that “video killed the radio star” as the Buggles so aptly put it in their 1979 hit song. Well, for it’s true for the internet generation as well. As popular as MP3s are, the preferred music delivery device for Web 2.0 junkies in the last year has got to be the video. While watching pixelated images on YouTube can be amusing, the ability to download decent quality music and videos is really the key for a lot of people, especially audiophiles or fans of a specific band. If you’re looking for something a little less mainstream than what you’d find on iTunes, check out VideoSeconds.com. This website is still building their library, but they currently offers some great finds at incredible prices, including fan video footage considered to be the first live video recording of Keane for only $1.29, as well as a 56 minute Sonny George live concert for only $1.50. Featured Wiki Page: Earth Day Portal

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

Happy Earth Day today! To honor this day of celebrating and protecting the Earth, we at AboutUs decided to feature a wiki page that wasn’t quite finished yet. In fact, it’s only just been started. We’ve built a basic Earth Day Portal with the hopes that everyone in the community might add their thoughts and expertise to create a communal project to celebrate Earth Day during the upcoming week. Here’s the basic idea, come in and help fill out the sections (including Earth Day history, celebrations, products), or just write a little bit about What you did to celebrate Earth Day. Need help getting started filling out the portal or want some direction, contact TakKendrick for pointers. You can also take a look at the pages in the Earth Day Category for companies and organizations with activities and events this Earth Day.

AboutUs is all about community. Building and sustaining community and communities on our wiki. We also can be partial towards high tech toys, including video games. So it’s been fun watching the development of the LastwolfAlliance.net page over the last couple of days. Spearheaded by a group of loyal Guild Wars players, LastwolfAlliance.net is a website where the smaller guilds in the Guild Wars game environment have formed a couple of different alliances to help work for common goals inside of that gaming world. In it’s way, these alliances are communities of gamers working towards a common gaming outcome. What’s also incredible for the AboutUs faithful is the fact that several members of their community have now joined our community and worked together to build an incredible wiki page, complete with a history of the alliances, present and future outlooks, photos, rules and guidelines and more, creating along the way one of the most robust AboutUs pages to date. There’s some sort of magic to taking a good photograph. Sure, many of us own cameras, but that doesn’t make us photographers, it makes us camera owners. So the art of being a true photographer is more than just owning the camera or even the taking of the photo, it lies in perfectly capturing those moments we want or need to hold onto. The photography at IanSchrayPhotography.com represents exemplarily quality work from someone who is truly a photographer. Specializing in location model shoots with a full-service shop to create unforgettable, “all-about-you” photography, Ian Schray has also helped build the nearly-complete Photography Portal here at AboutUs. It seems like we’ve been talking about a completely paperless office for years. While that lofty utopia may still be in the future, companies like Columbia Soft are making large steps in that direction. Their service at DocumentLocator.com for example helps provide solutions for businesses to manage both electronic and paper documents with software to scan and convert paper documents to digital files, capture and manage emails, attachments and faxes from processing to storage, routing and tracking.
