Today is OneWebDay, an international event celebrating online life on the 22nd of September each year. On OneWebDay.org it is explained as “a platform for people to educate and activate others about issues that are important for the Internet’s future” and an “Earth Day for the internet.” OneWebDay was founded by Susan Crawford in 2006, and has since spread all over the world.
This year, AboutUs is proud to say that we had a hand in planning and sponsoring Portland’s inaugural OneWebDay event. Held in Pioneer Courthouse Square (a.k.a Portland’s living room), our OWD had a focus on educating the public about the myriad of ways the Web can improve their lives. There were booths about wiki (of course), blogging, social networking, online banking, internet safety, and finding jobs, scholarships, and doctors online, among others. Ray, Steven, and Kristina all showed up to participate, and we hope this was just the first of many fantastic OneWebDays to come!
