Portland Tech Twitter

by Steven Walling on 15 October 2008

It’s no secret that Portland has one of the most dynamic Twitter communities in the country, if not the world. The multitude of interesting conversations, absorbing events, and just plain cool tech people to be found via the Portland twitterverse (including a wiki-built Twitter dictionary, for all those not up on the geeky lingo) is truly astounding.

For some time, there have been resources cataloging Twitter folk to follow based on your interest. You can find lists of Twitter news sources, bloggers, designers, and just about anything else you might think of. But, until recently, there had never been a Portland-specific directory of tech tweeters.

Thanks to the intiative of Amber Case and Bram Pitoyo, AboutUs is now the proud host of the Portland Tech Twitter page.

Already, the page has been a perfect example of how a wiki is great for building this kind of knowledge repository. Starting with just a tiny bit of plain text, hundreds of edits by many people have built Portland Tech Twitter in to a rich compendium of more than 80 tweeple.

Our goal is a comprehensive list, so please add yourself or anyone in the pdx tech scene that tweets (check out Bram’s post about how to contribute). Currently, it is in alphabetical order. However, this is definitely still a work in progress, and the sky’s the limit in terms of changes to the organization of the page. Feel free to run wild with any ideas you might have.

We’re very excited that people are learning how to build things of use on the AboutUs wiki. Thanks again to Bram, Amber and everyone who has worked on the page so far. We hope that this can grow in to a great resource for the community, one that shows just what Portland tech has to offer.
