For the fourth time this year, technology enthusiasts (dare we say, “geeks”) from the Portland, OR area will gather for the Ignite Portland event this Thursday. This quarterly free event is an opportunity for people to present and see the various cool projects happening in the community.

Ignite Portland 4
November 13, 2008
Bagdad Theater
3702 S.E. Hawthorne Blvd.
Portland, OR 97214
7:00 – 10:00 PM
Ticketholders: 5:30 PM
General Admission: 6:15 PM
Admission is always FREE
The uniqueness of Ignite Portland is the challenge of a format that’s something between a Powerpoint presentation and a speed-chess tournament – participants get 5 minutes to present 20 slides of 15 seconds each to discuss pretty much whatever they want. Presentations are picked on the merit of “how interesting they are” rather than other subjective criteria such as themes, and since there’s no keynote, all presenters are equal.
Ignite Portland, the brainchild of the non-profit Legion of Tech, offers another semi-unique blush to the local tech landscape – they’re free for presenters and attendees alike. The only catch is that once the building’s capacity is met (somewhere around 700 people), they have to close the doors for fire code reasons.
To accommodate this, 550 tickets were released to the public last week, but were snatched up in under 3.5 hours. Have no fear though, intrepid souls willing to brave the Pacific Northwest weather (ie. get to the event a few hours early to wait in line) are likely to get in when the doors open for general admission around 6:15 p.m.
As a sponsor of Ignite Portland 4, AboutUs will be on hand and will be debuting a new 30-second video about our website at the event. For a preview of the vast topics covered at Ignite Portland, check out videos from previous events on the AboutUs page for IgnitePortland.com!
