Wiki, open technology and collaboration enthusiasts from around the world are all invited to this year’s RecentChangesCamp, taking place next month here in Portland, OR.

Held every year since 2006 (and twice in 2007) RecentChangesCamp (or RCC as we call it) is a non-denominational wiki conference (ie. not platform specific) that has bounced around over the years, with events in Portland, Montreal and Palo Alto and now Portland again.

The format for RCC follows an “unconference” format similar to BarCamps and other open space technology meetups, where participants self-organize the agenda and breakout sessions during the first day of RCC. Each day will have time for opening and closing gatherings to regroup, shift plans and share insights. The open space structure operates on four basic principles:

• Whoever comes is the right people.
• Whatever happens is the only thing that could have.
• Whenever it starts is the right time.
• Whenever its over, its over.

RCC is about openness and inclusion, collaboration and community, creativity and flow and is open to anyone of any skill set that’s interested in wiki, open collaboration, public participation and free culture. You’re welcome to come for any or all of the three days. Notable wiki enthusiasts as well as other OpenTechnology and OpenCulture people will be in attendance.

This year’s RCC will be held at the University Place Hotel on the Portland State University campus from Friday, Feb. 20 to Sunday, Feb. 22. The three-day event is FREE thanks to our generous sponsors, WikiHow and AboutUs. To sign-up, for more information, or to see photos and videos or previous RCC events, visit the website.

Ignite Portland – Pre-RCC Warm-up Opportunity

For those already in Portland, or coming to town early, check out the Ignite Portland 5 event happening the day before RCC (Feb. 19). As we mentioned for the last event, Ignite Portland is a rapid-fire opportunity for people to present and share the various technology and other interesting projects happening in the Portland community. Participants get 5 minutes to present 20 slides of 15 seconds each to discuss pretty much whatever they want

And, if you’re interested in doing more than watching the chaos described as “something between a Powerpoint presentation and a speed-chess tournament,” you have until Jan. 24 to submit a talk proposal, so jump to it.

Ignite Portland 5 is being held at Portland’s Bagdad Theater from 7-10 p.m. Admission is FREE.
