Here at AboutUs we try to keep an open mind and open eye to what is going on in the world.
One thing that has been on our radar for a while now is “cloud computing”. We have a busy site and lots of data, and managing that, can be quit a task. The benefits of the “cloud” are not lost on us, so we decided to stick a foot in the water, and move our blog to Amazon’s ec2 service. So, If you are reading this, it is being served to you from a virtual machine running somewhere in Amazon’s data center. Who knows, on the same physical machine that is hosting this virtual server (that is hosting this blog) could be…..a ta-da list server, or one of ESPN’s, or one of Harvard’s many servers that perform genetic simulations. Hummm, makes me think about The Matrix.
We have plans to do more with cloud computing, maybe lots more. We will post more details when we have them.
