Tracking the AboutUs blog widget in the wild.

by Steven Walling on 14 April 2009

Since March 26, 2009, when Rick Turoczy announced the blog widget on Silicon Florist, we’ve received some great feedback and seen it spread in use, slowly but surely. After less than a month of being publicized, the widget has been deployed in 1206 blog posts and viewed more than 34,000 times.

That’s a respectable showing, and we’re pleased to see that a select group of those using the widget like it so much that they are even making it a permanent part of their blog’s content by including it in their footer or sidebar.widgetinsidebar

Blogging software like WordPress has long used easy admin widgets to update sidebar content, and our widget is being used by some just like that: as a dynamic, editable tool for publishing about their website.

We’ve also started to hear some really great reviews of the widget from smart bloggers, such as Jake Kuramoto over at Oracle AppsLab. Thanks to Jake and everyone else who have gotten in to the details of what they’d want in a future iteration of the widget.

Those are great numbers! Do you have links to some of the blog using the widget?

Jeff, I’m sure you already knew Rick at Silicon Florist was using it. Most of the other people we see using the widget are small to medium-sized businesses, who are the same who form the bulk of those interested in promoting their site through AboutUs. The majority of those SMBs currently using the widget are also e-commerce sites in highly competitive markets.
