Have You Seen the Silicon Florist List on AboutUs? Let Rick Turoczy Give You a Tour

by Steven Walling on 4 June 2009

On Tuesday, Rick Turoczy, the chronicler and cheerleader for the Portland tech community via his Silicon Florist blog, gave a detailed tour of what it’s like to create a topical list on AboutUs. AboutUs blog readers should remember him as the man behind our dynamic blog widget.

In a first-class example of following the wiki way and being bold, Rick started a list of the top websites in Oregon’s “Silicon Forest” by adding the SiliconFlorist topic to relevant wiki pages on domains. Rick immediately caught on to the technique of filtering a list through editing the topics and summaries of sites, and opened the door for other Portland folks to create lists of their own (like on Portland comics).

Silicon Florist is of special to interest to us, being a Portland startup. But mixing and matching topical tags can make virtually any list of top websites. If you’d really like to get your hands dirty creating a list on a subject that matters to you, you can even become an AboutUs List Keeper.
