AboutUs wants to give you link love!

by KristinaWeis on 6 August 2009

LinkLoveLast year AboutUs added the NoFollow attribute to its outbound links as default to deter spammers and stop passing link love to the not-so-great sites in AboutUs’ all-inclusive guide to websites.

Since that change we have been removing the NoFollow attribute and ProFollow-ing links on great pages as we notice them and as people point them out and request our ProFollow policy (and we ProFollow all SpotlightUs Pages and featured pages from our early days).  This contrasts with Wikipedia and most social networking sites which NoFollow all external links period.

We’ve tweeted about our policy and added it to our help page, but we would love to show more people how to transform their site’s AboutUs page–and most importantly–give them link love.

So… check out these ideas and instructions on how to improve a basic AboutUs page and go forth and make edits!  If you have any questions or if your page is ready email us at Help@AboutUs.org and we’ll be happy to help and flip the switch to ProFollow.   Thank you!

I’m trying very hard to promote my book on line, I am not very good at adding links, photos, or cutting and pasting. I am good at writing for tweens and kids of all ages. Olivias’s Magic Conch, a fable in modern times filled with present day factual information and life lessons encourages all to help preserve the marine life, water and beaches for future generations. An active adventure heartwarming and fun, the story will entertain and enlighten young and old alike.
The book is out there and the cover, a beauty, is a genuine photo taken on the beach in Brigantine N.J. (staged to depict a description from the story), then computerized. Very inviting, I tried to attract a publisher who would be my end all, be all.
While the critiques were favorable and encouraging, I repeatedly sent queries/manuscripts to the wrong genre publishers, I believe because a fable is ageless I was like a loose canon. I went with a self publishing outfit and to date have just about run out of money. Xlibris charges for everything, and they produce just enough to remain within the boundaries of the contract without any effort on their part and no results at all. I need desparately to connect with a publisher who can see the importance of this book/ I own all rights and am willing to make any necessary changes. Thank you for any leads you can offer. P.A. P.A. -I think I can help. Book publishing and promotion is like no other business. But, like fierce mountains, there are friendly gnomes hiding in the rocks. The @ is my twitter name.
